1. Who we are
HabitZero (“we”, “us”, “the app”) is a days since counter and habit tracking app for iOS and Android. You can reach us at ketanpatidar77@gmail.com.
2. The short version
- There is no account or sign-up. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your counters, dates and notes are stored on your device. They only leave it if you choose to create a backup.
- We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to understand usage and fix crashes, and RevenueCat to manage Pro subscriptions.
- We do not sell your personal data and we do not show third-party ads.
3. Information stored on your device
The following is created by you and stays in the app’s local storage on your device:
- Counter names, colors, start dates and the unit you picked.
- Reset dates and any notes you write about a reset or a start.
- Reminder and milestone-alert settings (time and days) for each counter.
- App preferences such as theme, app icon and whether Face ID or passcode lock is on.
Habit data can be sensitive. Because it lives on your device, deleting the app removes it, unless you have made a backup (see section 5).
4. Information collected automatically
Firebase Analytics
We use Google Firebase Analytics to see which screens and features are used so we can improve the app. Firebase may collect an app-instance identifier, device and operating system information, app version, approximate region derived from the IP address, and usage events such as screens opened or buttons pressed. We do not send the names or notes of your counters to analytics.
Firebase Crashlytics
If the app crashes, Crashlytics may receive a crash report with device model, operating system version, app version and a technical stack trace. You can turn crash reporting on or off in Settings → Crash Reporting & Analytics.
RevenueCat and app stores
Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to verify purchases and unlock Pro. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, purchase and subscription status, and receipt information. We never see or store your payment card details; they are handled by Apple or Google.
These providers act under their own privacy policies: Google, RevenueCat, Apple.
4a. Home screen widgets (iOS)
If you add a HabitZero widget, the app shares your counter names, colors and dates with the widget through an App Group, which is storage on your device that only HabitZero and its widget can read. This data is not sent to us or to any third party for this purpose.
5. Backup and restore (Pro)
If you use Backup, the app sends a copy of your counters and app settings to our server over an encrypted connection. The server returns a QR code. When you scan that QR code with Restore, the app asks the server for the matching data and replaces the data on that phone. The backup is used only to provide this restore feature. If you want a backup deleted, email us from the address above and describe the backup (for example the date it was created) and we will remove it where we can identify it.
Anyone who has your QR code can restore the data inside it, so keep the QR image private.
6. Permissions the app may ask for
- Notifications: to deliver the daily reminders you set and milestone alerts such as “7 days clean”. Both are scheduled on your device.
- Camera: to scan a backup QR code when restoring. Images are processed on the device and are not stored or uploaded.
- Photos: to save a backup QR code to your gallery or to pick a QR image when restoring. The app only accesses the images you save or select.
- Calendar: optional. If you ask for a trial-ending reminder, the app adds one calendar event on your device.
- Face ID / Touch ID / biometrics: to unlock the app if you turn the lock on. Biometric checks are done by your device’s operating system; the app only receives a yes or no result and never sees or stores your face or fingerprint data.
You can change or revoke any permission at any time in your device settings.
7. How we use information
- To provide the app: counting, reminders, backup and restore, Pro features.
- To understand usage and improve design, performance and reliability.
- To diagnose and fix crashes and bugs.
- To respond when you contact us for support.
8. Sharing
We share information only with the service providers listed above, who process it on our behalf to run the app, or when the law requires it. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising.
If you use the “share” feature, the image you create is handed to the app you choose (for example Messages). What happens next is governed by that app.
9. Data retention and deletion
- On-device data stays until you delete a counter or delete the app.
- Analytics and crash data are kept by Firebase according to its retention settings and then deleted automatically.
- Purchase records are kept as long as needed to maintain your subscription and meet legal obligations.
- Backups are kept to support restore until you ask us to delete them.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the EEA, UK, California and other regions), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not hold an account for you, most of your data is already under your control on your device. For anything else, email ketanpatidar77@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority, or in India with the Data Protection Board once it is constituted.
11. Security
We use industry-standard protections such as encrypted connections when data is sent to our server. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Turning on the app lock and keeping your backup QR code private will help protect your data.
12. Children
HabitZero is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, they rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
14. Not medical advice
HabitZero is a tracking and motivation tool. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Please consult a qualified professional about addiction, withdrawal or any health concern.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above, and for significant changes we will make a reasonable effort to let you know in the app or on this page.
